Portland Community Partnership
Welcome to the PCP website created to give information, advice and help to all who live and work on our fabulous island. There is something for everybody. For those of you who live on the island we have sections specifically for the youth and seniors. For business we have a job vacancies section as well as a business directory.
The partnership’s AGM was held on the 28th June and the following officers were appointed Andy Matthews- Chair, Phil Laming –Vice Chair, Yvonne Beven – Secretary, Andrew Harvey- Treasurer.
The main meeting covered information from the Police on some community approaches to dealing with anti social behaviour and requesting the public to monitor the new Crimemapper website in order to ask questions at the next meeting.
Stuart Morris gave an informative talk on how past planning has impacted upon our current circumstances and Yvonne Beven updated the group on how the Revive Fortuneswell project is developing with partners support.
The meeting concluded with a discussion about the partnership’s action plan for 2011/12 which covered Environment, Economy, Community and Accessibility issues. The PCP is using this document to try and stimulate partners and local authorities to consider issues beyond 2012. This will become of increasing importance as the various ideas around involving communities more actively in their own futures become more apparent.
If therefore you would copies of the notes of the meeting and the PCP action plan then please email portlandcommunitypartnership@gmail.com
The next meeting is timetabled for the end of September beginning of October. Date and venue will be advised shortly.
On the 20th April Nesta Hunt formally opened the new Fairfield Day Centre decking area, a PCP project which has taken several years of negotiation to bring to fruition. Phil Laming PCP Chair thanked all those who had made the project happen either through funding or volunteer effort including Weymouth Lions, Portland Rotary, Paul Dean Associates Architects, Revive, DCC, Lynch Lane Garden Centre, Value house and Rachel Barton. Phil looked forward to the area being further developed by planting and the installation of bird and bat boxes. Users of this new facility certainly had a good start with a wonderful warm spring morning for the opening and together they enjoyed cup cakes, hot cross buns and drinks which produced many happy faces.
The 2011 Portland maps are now ready. If you are a Portland business you need the PCP Portland maps at your establishment. We have delivered and handed out as many as we can but if you have not received yours please collect from reception at The Heights Hotel.
We have also got new car stickers in advertising the island and the PCP. Please contact the Secretary if you would like to have them to sell.
The former governor’s garden at the front of the YOI has been leased to the Portland Community Partnership as a community open space. Working in partnership with the Portland Gas Trust, YOI and the Island Ranger on this scheme we are delighted to say that a successful bid to the lottery’s Changing Spaces program for £46,000 means that the new areas can now be implemented. This will include a wildlife area and pond, a botanical garden, picnic area and children’s play area. Further details available from the Secretary.
